Energy management

The aim of the project is to reduce the energy consumption of buildings owned by the region or its organizations. The goal can be achieved by gradually equipping these buildings with smart technologies and the associated introduction of systematic management for energy management.

In Liberec Region, the energy management field is part of the regional authority's agenda. The job of Energy manager has been created and occupied at the regional authority. At the same time, an energy management system has been introduced and systematic monitoring of consumption and costs is underway. What is currently missing is the initiative to introduce technologies (so-called smart buildings) in the preparation of new projects or in the rebuilding of existing regional structures. Designers are not motivated to work with new technologies and there is a lack of coordination with the energy manager.

The project aims at efficient and ecological management of buildings owned by Liberec Region. The principle lies in gradual equipping of buildings with smart technologies and setting up processes in the spirit of so-called smart buildings.

Smart buildings technology

  • Operational control by setting heating, circuits, electrical outlets and other system elements based on the current needs in individual rooms, parts of buildings, circuits, etc.

  • Online measurement and data transfer

  • Evaluation of consumption based on real current data and real-time evaluation of savings

  • Qualified decision-making concerning priorities and investments in buildings based on valid data

Our goals

Smart buildings are defined as objects that use automated technologies and processes to automatically control the operation of a building in the fields of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, security and more.

Typical tools used in the field of energy management include, for example, sensors and smart heads with the possibility of self-regulation located on heating elements, sensors sensing the actual temperature inside and outside the building, sensors and smart heads on heating systems and boilers. The sensors indicate the current values and, via programmed algorithms, control the automatic heating system based on the requirements set by the user.

A similar principle works in the area of electricity flow management. Energy consumption can be regulated as required, for example, using smart sockets, switches and switchboards on split circuits or using light sensors (activated by the movement of people and the intensity of outdoor lighting). The obtained data is then converged in the central control room where it is possible to monitor consumption, plan the operation and settings of the system and perform evaluations.

  • Introduce a unified online system for collecting data on the energy performance of buildings owned by Liberec Region

  • Reduce energy costs in these buildings

  • Increase the efficiency of regional investments in real estate
