Semiconductors

The Liberec Region offers a strong and proven subcontracting base for the semiconductor industry. Companies and research institutions in the region provide unique technologies, components, services, and know-how that are essential to the modern semiconductor industry — from precision engineering and electronics to optics, nanomaterials, and ICT, as well as research, testing, and process water treatment.

This page is being created in cooperation with key regional partners — the Technical University of Liberec and selected companies. Information about their semiconductor-related competencies has been provided directly by these entities as part of a joint effort to present the Liberec Region as a region that has much to offer to the semiconductor industry and is open to international cooperation.

Our role: signpost and coordinator

Through the Regional Development Agency, the 1012+ platform, and other partners, the Liberec Region systematically develops and connects regional stakeholders involved in the semiconductor value chain.

What we do:

  • help stakeholders navigate the region — who does what, and what capabilities companies, the university, and research institutions have,

  • connect companies with the university, research institutions, schools, and public administration,

  • together with partners, collect and update information about their semiconductor-related activities and turn it into a clear overview for potential partners,

  • organize meetings, site visits, round tables, and study trips that help individual stakeholders find their role in the semiconductor ecosystem,

  • in cooperation with CzechInvest, the Technical University of Liberec, and other partners in the Czech Republic and abroad, connect the region to the European semiconductor ecosystem.

Why the Liberec Region is attractive for the semiconductor industry

The Liberec Region lies at the unique heart of the tri-border area, within easy reach of Dresden, Prague, Ústí nad Labem, and Wrocław. This makes it a natural bridge for Czech-German-Polish cooperation and for integration into the Saxon semiconductor hub centered around Dresden and the ESMC/TSMC investment.

The region has a long tradition in industry and technology, especially in the fields of:

  • precision engineering and automation,

  • electrical engineering, electronics, and embedded systems,

  • optics and optoelectronics,

  • nanomaterials and advanced materials,

  • water treatment and purification technologies.

A fundamental pillar is the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) and its research infrastructure, which connects education, cutting-edge research, and cooperation with industry.
