How can modern technologies help in paediatric oncology? How can artificial intelligence be used in the prevention of heart disease, or virtual reality in the training of healthcare professionals? These questions were explored by nearly 280 doctors, healthcare managers and representatives of technology companies from across the country at the TechCare 2026 conference, held in Liberec on 25 February.

The Rovinka mobile app is being developed at Liberec Regional Hospital as part of the HealthLabs4Value project and is intended to provide long term support for life with a spinal cord injury. The healthcare team created its concept in close cooperation with patients and caregivers so that it can serve as a guide to life situations, health and social care, preventive measures and risk related challenges.

The team at the Centre of Advanced Technologies at the University of Hradec Králové is among the key domestic players in the field of healthcare technologies. Among other things, it is behind the Anume pads, which can predict health problems in older people with up to 98% accuracy. How did a project that began as a student idea make it into practice – and what do healthcare professionals and care home management themselves value about it?

She’d been drawn to space since childhood. She dreamed of becoming an astronaut, and later—more down-to-earth—a doctor. But at the last minute she changed course and graduated from the Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Technical University of Liberec. Even so, she eventually found her way back to medicine—by a roundabout route.

When we think of healthcare, we picture a doctor’s office, a waiting room or a hospital ward. A doctor and a patient, the two main actors in a dialogue about health. But that approach is no longer enough. Modern technology is increasingly claiming its place. Tomáš Šebek, a doctor without borders, founder of the start-up uLékaře.cz and host of this year’s TechCare 2026 conference, explains how he sees this transformation and why he considers the role of start-ups and artificial intelligence to be crucial.
