Liberec Ideathon 2025
Kick-start your brain, solve the problem, win!
For the fifth time, the Liberec Ideathon will become a hatchery for new student projects that will help develop our region. You can apply if you are studying at a high school in the Liberec region or at TUL. You will be given four challenges to choose from, and you will have 24 hours to solve one of them. We'll give you good coffee, refreshments and experienced mentors on hand to advise you so that the final project is as viable as possible. Each challenge represents a real problem or area that we want to move forward with your input, even after the Ideathon is over. The best competing teams will share prize money worth 120,000 CZK.

Which challenges can you choose from this year?
We took a survey among last year's contestants to see if they would have entered even if they had no prior knowledge of the challenge topics, and to our surprise, we found that the majority said yes! We won't go to that extreme, but this year we will reveal fewer details before the competition than in previous years.
The list of topics is only indicative - you'll be given a specific brief, which will tell you exactly what each challenge will cover, on the spot after the competition has started.
✅ Topic 1: Social Enterprises and Knowledge Sharing
Ideal primarily for enthusiasts of social enterprises, humanities-related topics, entrepreneurs, but also for skilled technical types and coders.
Topic Owner: Liberec Region
✅ Topic 2: Website Upgrade of Statutory City of Liberec
A great choice not only for coders and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) enthusiasts but also for creatives and those with a humanities focus.
Topic Owner: Statutory City of Liberec
✅ Topic 3: Making Regional Research Library in Liberec more attractive to a Specified Target Group
This could appeal not only to humanities and education students but also to passionate spatial and interaction designers.
Topic Owner: Regional Research Library in Liberec
✅ Topic 4: Circularity and Sustainability in a Specific Marketing Topic
This theme is open not only to sustainability enthusiasts and marketers but also to designers, fashion designers, material engineers, and many others.
Topic Owner: Preciosa
You did not find yourself among the mentioned fields? Never mind! Student teams with any major and combinations of majors can apply. Creativity and a desire to solve a problem are crucial - they know no disciplinary boundaries! Plus, we know that the best solutions sometimes come from the places we would least expect.

What will be the course of the competition?
Confirm your participation in the Ideathon no later than Monday 3 April at the link above. You can compete in two categories, one for TUL students and the other for students of high schools in the Liberec region. What you need is a team of 2-4 members (we recommend a team of four - more heads know more), original ideas and a laptop to work on. The number of contestants is limited to 60, so don't hesitate to register.
On the first day of the competition, the teams will meet for an introductory presentation. During this, the topic owners will provide background information on their challenges and the teams will choose a topic to tackle over the next 24 hours. Then the phase where teams develop solutions to their challenges will start. During the first and second days, both the sponsors and expert mentors will be available to you and your teammates. You can book an appointment with them online at any time during the competition.
Which is the right way to win?
Don't overdo it with the preparation, you will get the specific topic assignments and all the data when the competition starts on site. Only then will you find out the right way to win. The expert jury will focus on:
✅ Originality and complexity of the solution
✅ Potential for feasibility and sustainability
✅ Form and execution of the final presentation
